The month of April was a transition from cold weather to warm which meant it was somewhat of time for an updated skin care routine. Other items I had get to my hands on was hair product since my hair was doing whatever it wanted and was in dire need of some tender love and care. You'll want to read up on the deets of these items plus this post is a little delayed so lets not waste any more time, hit the 'read more' link below for deets!
NOT YOUR MOTHER'S | SHE'S A TEASE VOLUMIZING HAIRSPRAY
As often as I can, I take trips to ULTA in hopes to come out with one thing and if that store is not a tease already the cute travel size items at the check out line are forever a tease. Great marking tool, ULTA because it gets me every time. This time around I chose to buy the travel size Not Your Mother's 'She's a tease volumizing hairspray' because lately my curls weren't holding long enough throughout the day. First impression of this hairspray was good yet the fragrance that the hairspray carries was somewhat strong for me. After a few uses the smell grew on me and the consistency of the hairspray is amazing! It holds my wavy beach curls for hours so I would definitely recommend this just spray from a far and you'll be good to flow.
MATRIX | TOTAL RESULTS COLOR CARE SO SILVER SHAMPOO
As the lovely Marianna Hewitt once said, "Keep your blonde hair classy, not brassy!"
Like I said this month consisted of many transitions, a popular one amongst classy hair'ed gals is the hair color transformation from dark to light. Highlights throughout the hair or ombre hair (which is what I have) can be a great idea, but the blonde warm tones can turn orange very quickly. Well there's a solution to this pesky problem, purple shampoo can color treat your hair in the comfort of your own home! I've been using Matrix, Total Results Color Care So Silver Shampoo which tones your hair to keep your blonde locks vibrant while preventing any brassiness (orange) to pull through. This shampoo is amazing, I noticed a difference in my hair color in just three days.
How I apply it: The bottle calls for leaving the shampoo in for 1 minute but I leave it in for about 5 mins while I scrub/shave then rinse off shampoo. I apply it to my ends ( because I have ombre hair my blonde is towards the bottom of my hair) followed by applying my regular shampoo to the roots of my hair and wallah! I have nice light locks again... give it a try and let me know how it works for you.
p.s. Don't fret, the purple shampoo won't stain your tub ;)
SKINCARE COSMETICS | RETINOL NIGHT CREAM
Something my mom has always instilled in me is that facial skin is very important and one should take good care of it. Skin protection/care is so important that I can't stress it enough. You may not think so, but the daily dose of sun rays we take in can be sooo damaging especially if you do not use SPF on a daily basis. Often times we think because its Winter time and the sun in hiding behind clouds that not a whole lot of damage is being done... wrong that's the time our skin is most vulnerable. Which lead me to my visit to ULTA in search of a retinol cream which would help restore and maintain elasticity in the skin. Keep in mind it is NEVER to early to begin using these type of products, if anything the earlier the better. Which is a key note I have learned from my auntie/sister who abides by saying anti-aging products do not work as effectively once damage is already presented to the skin. Rather when your skin is still well is when these type of products should be used in order to benefit from these types of creams. Skin Care Cosmetics Retinol Night Cream has noticeably smoothed my skin and has brought smoothness around my eyes. The product feels good on my skin the only downfall I'd say is the smell is not appealing yet after the third usage I was accustomed to the smell and it no longer bothered me. Plus it is a night cream which means nobody else will necessarily smell it or be bothered by it.
How I apply it: After cleansing my skin I dab six dime size dots on my face. Forehead, right cheek, left cheek, chin, left side of neck, right side of neck. Once applied to all areas I begin to massage the product into the designated areas making sure the dominant motion is up and outwards, applying anything in this motion can ensure that you don't cause premature wrinkles to your face. The reason I apply this to my neck as well is because it should be taken care of just as much as your facial skin to ensure evenness. Give it a try for yourself or if you use a different brand let me know, I'd love to try a different product once I hit pan on my jar.
M.A.C | PRO LONGWEAR LIP PENCIL
Recently I've been all about lip pencils rather than lipsticks, is that weird? Idk call me crazy but it does the most important trick of lining the lips to prevent smudging and when I apply it all over the lips it causes this matte look which I absolutely love. A few months ago I received a M.A.C gift card in the mail so my bf and I took a trip to the mall and a Pro Longwear Lip Pencil is what I walked out with (maybe having my bf is what helped only walking out with ONE item lol) I used to wear a lot of reds and maroons on my lips but as of late neutrals are everything to me! I swatched this lip pencil and I had to have it, the color is subtle and the pigment has great consistency. The reason I went with this Nice 'N' Spicy is because I can easily wear is as a day look and transitions great for a night time look as well. This pencil lives up to the name of long lasting plus doesn't smudge easily.
How I apply it: I use the lip pencil almost as a lipstick by first adding a dab of concealer to my lips, this will help with long wear you know, just in case. Then I line my lips starting from the outer corners working my way to the center of the lips. Once the lining is done I move on filling in the rest of the lips by only adding small strokes (this pencil is pigmented enough so you don't have to use much) and there you have it, nice neutral lips for your day time or night time look.
Really hope you have some useful take aways from this month's beauty favorites!
