D I S C O N N E C T E D

How many hours you spend on your phone? All day, All day.
We all love social media and its not our fault, now a days the apps we have access to are too amazing to pass up. Not to mention the perks of taking a picture and being able to add filters, graphics, collages, and more automatically makes us feel artsy and creative. All of this takes time which is usually spent with others and when you are with others you are not necessarily in the moment with that person.
With this said as of lately I have noticed that I enjoy time spent away from my phone in order to enjoy the people and places around me rather than letting another moment in my life fade into a very vague memory.

As a blogger being involved in all social media platforms happens to be one of the main forms of building a relationship with your followers. Ways that I have been ensuring that I am not loosing my life in the midst of sharing all things on social media is by living in the present. Here are a few ways of disconnecting from your phone and social media for a few hours a day (sounds harder than it is, plus there's perks)

  • SET YOUR PHONE ON SILENT
I've found that by setting my phone on silent without a vibrating tone, I am not as concerned about receiving an incoming call or text for the specific amount of time I have chosen to disconnect for. If you're like me, once you hear a text tone or email ring you are automatically reaching for your phone. Try setting your phone on silent for a minimum of an hours, trust me an hour is enough for me since I constantly have emails and text messages to get back to.

  • LOG OUT OF YOUR FAVORITE ACCOUNTS
I have the hardest time staying off of Instagram! It is my favorite app because I follow all the accounts, companies, bloggers, and friends that I love and of course they are constantly posting the most amazing photos and me being me I feel as if FOMO (Fear of Missing Out) gets the best of me if I'm not keeping up to date. Lately what I've been doing is actually logging out of my account for a few hours in the day in order to minimize the temptation. Plus the upside is when I log back on at the end of the day I have so many wonderful posts to see rather than anticipating more posts from the refreshed feed.

  • WORK OUT | WALK, RUN, BE ACTIVE
When I disconnect for an hour or two from my day I choose to utilize this time to do things that will make me feel better. I have a difficult time wanting to workout but lately I am noticing that it might have been a selective choice of mine not to workout because I was too occupied by my preference of past time on IG. I have been going on runs at the park and this happens to allow me to come back to my work fresh minded, inspired, and energized. It is great to get out rather than always being indoors. It is proven that being out in nature helps us reconnect with out inner selves which brings more positivity into your day. Definitely love this one.
  • LEAVE YOUR PHONE IN YOUR PURSE
One thing I was guilty of was being on my phone while at lunch, dinner, an event you name it, you could find me staring down at my phone. Have you seen the infamous Meme that reads: Who else is starring at their phone somewhere fun this weekend? haha that me! This is so sad because when we do this we can come off as rude and to top it off we miss precious time with the people we are with. I strongly think that living in the moment is important so I have been trying to keep my phone in my purse whenever I am out and about. If you're having lunch, brunch or dinner try leaving your phone in your purse for the whole time. You'll be surprised how fun the people you are around with are.

Mammoth Lakes, California | June 2014

Overall I wanted to share what I have been doing lately for self care. We all need to connect with ourselves on a higher level. Of course at times it is easy to care for others and want the best for them, but at the same time make sure you are wanting the same things for yourself! This isn't any form of arrogance or feeding your ego, this is about self love and appreciation that your soul needs. The photos posted are from the fishing trip my BF and I took last year out in Mammoth, Ca. This experience was amazing to disconnect and only use my phone as a camera, makes you acknowledge the beautiful surroundings around us. Hope this post can help, motivate, or inspire you in any way.
